History

The Nordic Feis is an annual Nordic Irish Dance Festival with activities such as competitions, Nordic Championships, workshops, Grade Exams, lectures and dinner party. The feis also has a vendor and a wonderful, supportive atmosphere! The Nordic Feis moves between the Nordic countries and has been a big success since the start.

The first Nordic Feis of Irish Dancing was organised in 2001 in Copenhagen, Denmark by Yvonne Rosenlund Swerke and Julie Karnil Bernkov on behalf of the Nordic Society of Irish Dancers'. It was a big success with around 100 participants from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Belgium. We had the great privilege of having Dr. John Cullinane ADCRG as adjudicator. The Nordic Feis has sinced been held as follows:

2001 Copenhagen Denmark
2002 Stockholm Sweden
2003 Drammen Norway
2004 Helsinki Finland
2005 Kongens Lyngby Denmark
2006 Stockholm Sweden
2007 Drammen Norway
2008 Espoo Finland
2009 Oslo Norway

The Nordic Feis gives the Nordic Irish dancers the chance to meet once a year, make new friends, have fun and get inspired by seeing each other dance. The dancers also get a checkup on their own level of dancing, objectively through the Grade Exams and in comparison with others through the competitions. Since the first feis we have seen great improvement in the dancing and the feis has become a goal for personal improvement for many dancers.
