Participation

The Nordic Feis of Irish Dancing 2011 is open to participants who are not members of the NSID. NSID members get a discounted registration fee.

Participants under the age of 18 must be registered with their parents' approval.

The competitions are open to participants:

  • within the Nordic countries belonging to non-registered teachers, teachers registered with CLRG & to An Comdhail.
  • from outside the Nordic countries belonging to teachers registered with CLRG.

Participants from outside the Nordic countries with teachers which are not registered with CLRG will hence not be allowed to take part in the competitions. A person registered with WIDA will not be allowed to enter the feis either, since the Nordic Feis is registered with The Irish Dancing Commission

Changes to registration 
Registration is binding. A refund can only be made if a participant can show a medical certificate and the Feis gives enough surplus. The registration fee will not be refunded. 

Last day of registration is September 29.

Taping
Private taping of the competitions is not allowed (in accordance with CLRG's rules). Any Form of unauthorised photography which has the capability to capture a dancer’s image whilst in motion, using electronic or manual means, e.g. mobile phone, standard camera, video camcorder, cine recorder, commercial film, with or without flash enhancement, is expressly forbidden in competition. 

If possible the Feis Committee will try to make an official feis video/dvd and you can register for it at the feis registration website. 

Competition

It is the teacher's responsibility to make sure his/her dancers compete at the correct level, i.e. move up a level if she/he won last year. It is not allowed to compete with the same dance at different levels.

The clothes must not hide: carriage, footwork, knees etc.

  • Solo costumes are not allowed for children under 12 years in beginners and primary. Dancers under 12 years in beginners or primary category will not be allowed on stage with solo costumes, but have to change before they can enter the competition.

Dancers that do not follow the rules will be excluded from the competition. 


Competition rules 
A participant that wins a dance with at least 5 competitors cannot dance the same level at the next Feis, but has to move up one level in that dance. 
A dancer can only dance a dance in one level.

All dancers who get a first or a second placement in any category at the Intermediate and Advanced level may enter the finale/the championship which will take place after all the solo competitions. Note that only inhabitants of a Nordic country will be allowed to enter the championship. 


Any breaking of Feis rules regarding performance during competition will be met with disqualification. Disqualification will be announced within the awards for the category in question

  • The committee has decided to not allow redancing if a dancer falls or forget steps. If a dancer restarts dancing the adjudicator will be asked not mark the second try.

  • In the case of two dancers crashing the adjudicator can call for a restart.


Competition Complaints 
Competition complaints must be in writing stating names and other factual information and signed by complainant. A fee of 180 SEK (20 €) must be enclosed and presented to the Head of Feis Committee within one hour of the occurrence. The fee will be returned if the complaint is upheld.
